Approached by a wooded, circular, gravel drive through the front garden (see photo at bottom of this page), Dournes is an 18th century 'Maison de Maitre' built on 3 floors (the third is a huge attic). It has 7 bedrooms and we've finished it with a mixture of modern and antique furniture. Behind the large oak door (which is opened with a 6 inch long key!) that you can just see on the photo above, on the ground floor we have: - Entrance Hall - With stone, tiled floor, mirrors and chandelier.
- Lounge - Seats at least 8 in front of an elegant fireplace. There's a photo of this room on the photo page.
- Chinese Sitting Room - Seats 4 - and is just what it says it is!
- Games Room - here we've got a full size snooker table, table football game, dart board, TV, video, DVD, board games, jigsaws...if our kids' aren't in the pool, we usually find them here! Again, you can see more on the photo page.
- Study - Large desk, leather chair, antique sofa and Napoleonic 'boat bed' (which we don't include as a bed, by the way!)
- Dining Room - With tiled, stone floor, a mahogany table that seats 12, sideboard and a chandelier. See photo page for a glimpse.
- Kitchen - Its fitted and fully equipped: 2 gas ovens, a 4 ring stove, warming plate, grill, microwave, dishwasher, all the usual kitchen utensils and enough crockery for c20 people. There's a wooden table in here that seats 10 for less formal meals.
- Utility Room - 2 fridge freezers and an upright freezer. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in the cellar. We also provide you with an iron and ironing board.
- There's also a WC on the ground floor.
And that's just the ground floor! Up the curving stone staircase (we've two, the other being a wooden, servants' one that was used in the old days!), on the first floor we have: - Large Landing - Another chandelier, an antique sofa and an oak wardrobe that houses all the bedlinen and towels.
- Master Bedroom - This is a large room with a large double/Queen size bed. It has a tapestry on the wall, and also enjoys a separate dressing room (with fitted wardronbes), an ensuite bathroom (bath, shower, WC) and it's own sun terrace.
- Second Bedroom - Another large double bedroom with ensuite bathroom (bath with shower and WC) and floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes. See photo page.
- Third Bedroom - This is a large, twin bedded room with a tapestry and separate wash basin room.
- Bedrooms 4 and 5 - Are single rooms.
- Bathroom - Shared by bedrooms 3-5 with bath with shower and WC.
- Separate WC.
All the bedrooms in the main house enjoy views of the gardens. Bedrooms 6 and 7 (respectively a twin and a single, so they sleep 3) are in an adjoining 'caretaker's' apartment. We keep this unoccupied and rent it free with the Chateau. It has its own separate entrance, kitchen, lounge and bathroom (a bath with shower and WC) and we find it ideal either for teenagers or visiting friends.
